3 Recipes Using What You Caught At Green Rocks Lodge

Red salmon with lemon slice on it

Whether you’re going on your self-guided tour for salmon, bear, or of our other options, you will have quite a haul!

Since we’re self-guided, the cleaning and butchering are on you and your group. However, we will vacuum seal and freeze whatever you give us- meaning you don’t need to eat what you hunt immediately! As you take home your items, you’ll likely start brainstorming about what to make with them. You’re in luck! Below are a few recipes using what you can catch or hunt at our lodge!

Salmon

Salmon- you know it, you love it. With freshly caught salmon, the best thing to do is let the natural flavors shine- as such, a simple pan fry in some butter and topped with a spritz of lemon is all you need for an amazing, flavorful meal!

Halibut

Like salmon, halibut is best served simple. However, to provide another recipe, we suggest blackened halibut and grits. Combine paprika, dried oregano, dried time, onion powder, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper. Thoroughly coat each filet with this splice blend, and fry the fish in butter or oil over medium-high heat for around 3 minutes per side. Serve on top of grits, and don’t forget to drizzle the leftover pan juices on top!

Dungeness Crab

Dungeness Crabs are mild and even slightly sweet. To focus on their freshly caught taste, try the following: After preparing your crab, mix a simple dipping sauce of butter, lemon, and some salt, and you have an amazing meal! If you want to amp it up, you can top a simple white wine pasta with your crab and some butter sauce!

Bear

Black Bear is known for its mild flavor. It takes well to low and slow methods, such as roasting or braising, resulting in a tender piece of meat. Many people opt to make a bear stew: take your favorite beef stew recipe, and sub the meat for bear! Oh, and don’t forget some good bread to serve with it!
